Le Comunità del Volto Santo
A 150 km journey in 7 stops, on foot, by e-bike, MTB or train, to discover 15 Community Cooperatives in Lunigiana and Garfagnana.
Lunigiana and Garfagnana are the heart of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines in Tuscany, and represent a world of mountain rurality made up of landscapes, parks and biodiversity, historic villages and castles, agricultural and gastronomic culture that preserves its pre-industrial identity. But the identity of these valleys is expressed especially by the small communities organised into hundreds of historic and rural villages, which have shaped the human landscape.
The Via del Volto Santo is a historical-religious itinerary that connects these valleys, following the route that pilgrims used from Pontremoli in Lunigiana to reach the Volto Santo preserved in the Cathedral of San Martino in Lucca.
The route can be travelled today by slow and sustainable means: on foot, by ebike or MTB and by train.
At the heart of the experience proposed by ToscoTravel are 15 Community Cooperatives active along the route, to get to know and especially to immerse oneself in their experience by participating in their activities.
ToscoTravel, Travel Agency of the AlterEco Community Cooperative, was created to valorise inland areas and Community Cooperatives.
It proposes the experience of travelling in the Communities of the Volto Santo, offering travel organisation services and logistical and booking assistance.
